Just do your best!
But… what is doing your best?
Your “best” is what you can do WITHOUT harming your physical or mental health. Not what you can accomplish by disregarding them.
We often hear the phrase “just do your best,” but what does that really mean? It’s easy get caught in the chains of thinking that doing our best means constant productivity, or always pushing ourselves to achieve more. But true success doesn’t come from running ourselves into the ground.
Doing your best is about honoring both your capabilities and your limits. It’s about recognizing that your physical and mental health matter AS MUCH as your goals. Your “best” isn’t what you can accomplish by disregarding your well-being~ it’s what you can achieve while maintaining balance.
If you’re constantly exhausted, stressed, or overwhelmed, you’re not doing your best, no matter how much you get done. In fact, real progress happens when we nurture ourselves along the way. Taking breaks, resting, and paying attention to your needs aren’t signs of weakness; they’re key to sustainable success.
So next time you feel the pressure to push past your limits, pause and remember that doing your best means respecting your mind and body too. After all, true progress only happens when you’re well enough to enjoy it.
For the longest time, I thought doing my best meant pushing myself to the brink. I used to say, “I’m doing all I can, and that’s my best”….. while I destroyed my body and while I ignored my needs for rest and self-care. I believed that if I wasn’t giving everything I had, I wasn’t doing enough. But that mindset only left me burned out and exhausted.
Now, I understand that my “best” is not about running my tank to empty. My best is whatever I’m capable of without sacrificing my mental or physical health.
NO MORE. NO LESS.
It means honoring my needs, setting healthy boundaries, and acknowledging that taking breaks is just as important as making progress!!!
True success isn’t about how much you can achieve by pushing past your limits. It’s about what you can accomplish while staying balanced, well, and whole.
So next time you feel the pressure to do more, ask yourself: are you truly doing your best, or are you doing more than your best at the expense of your health?
Really think about that.
Real growth happens when we learn to care for ourselves along the way.
