Caged

When you let a bear out of its cage,

Expect the fury, expect the rage.

For silence held for far too long,

Speaks in ways both right and wrong.

Every silenced thought, a truth to feel,

Each swallowed word, a wound to heal.

It builds a prison, deep and cold,

Where truths are buried, too heavy to hold.

But even locks of iron will eventually fail,

The heart will scream, the soul will wail.

And when the lock at last gives way,

That bear won’t simply just walk away.

It rages wild, it claws the air,

Unleashing all its feared to share.

The bear erupts, the words pour out,

Its voice sidesteps all fear and doubt.

This is the cost of holding back,

Of silencing yourself, of trying to lack

Your truth calls for freedom, loud and clear,

To hold your boundaries, to keep them near.

So speak what you feel, don’t let it stay,

The hurt, the truth, what you need to say.

For what’s suppressed will always show,

When freed, with no choice, feelings overflow.
